📞 RingCentral DTMF Shortcuts (Touch-Tone Commands)
Using DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) shortcuts in RingCentral allows you to control calls directly from your deskphone keypad—even if your phone doesn’t have dedicated buttons for transfer or call park.
These shortcuts are especially useful on basic IP phones or when working remotely.
🎯 What Are DTMF Shortcuts?
DTMF shortcuts are touch-tone commands (using your phone keypad) that let you:
- Transfer calls
- Flip calls to another device
- Park calls
📌 Think of them as “keyboard shortcuts” for your phone.
To begin using DTMF commands during a live call:
📋 Steps:
- Press # # (pound twice)
- The caller is placed on hold
You may hear:
“You have a call on hold… To transfer this call, dial the extension…”
From here, you can choose different actions.
🔀 Transfer to Another Extension (Blind Transfer)
📋 Steps:
- Press # #
- Dial the extension number
📌 The call is transferred immediately (blind transfer).
📌 The caller stays on hold until the recipient answers or goes to voicemail.
👀 Caller ID Behavior:
- Shows original caller ID only
🔁 Transfer or Flip to Another Phone Number
This allows you to send the call to an external number or another device.
📋 Steps:
- Press # #
- Press 1
- Enter the phone number (or Call Flip number)
- Press # to complete
📌 Can be used for a warm transfer if you stay on the line first.
👀 Caller ID Behavior:
- Displays the Call Flip number, not the original caller
📬 Park a Call
Call Park lets you place a call in a “shared spot” so another user can pick it up.
📋 Steps:
- Press # #
- Press *
- Press 3
📌 You’ll hear the park extension number
📌 Share that number with another user to retrieve the call
❌ Cancel an Action
At any time:
- Press ** (star twice) to cancel
- Press # to return to the original call
⚠️ Important Notes
- ❗ DTMF transfers do not work with RingOut calls
- 📞 Blind transfers happen automatically when dialing an extension
- 🔄 Warm transfers require staying on the line before completing
- 🎧 Prompts may vary slightly depending on system configuration
💡 Pro Tips
- Use DTMF shortcuts as a backup method if buttons aren’t available
- Great for older phones (Cisco, Poly, Yealink, etc.)
- Helps when working in remote or limited UI environments
- Memorize # # — it’s your starting point for everything
🚀 Quick Reference
| Action | Keys to Press |
|---|
| Access menu | # # |
| Transfer to extension | # # → Extension |
| Flip to phone number | # # → 1 → Number → # |
| Park call | # # → * → 3 |
| Cancel | ** |
